I was watching several coworkers perform amazing card tricks during lunch. My coworker begins his trick by saying, "Watch, listen, and understand carefully, or you will miss the trick." As I sat in awe I could not help but find a correlation between these card tricks and people's so called "life". I've always been the observer trying to figure out how the tricks are played. I even try not to blink so I can attentively watch their every move, eager to find out their secret. I sometimes wonder if these magicians truly are smarter, more witty, or just plain humorous. Of course, in the end I come out with nothing but a blank stare on my face; fooled once more. It's easy to get caught up on the surface of things and see it just for what they are. Sometime people forget to listen, and not only listen, but understand. Sometimes people are so eager to see the "trick" that they don't recognize what's right before them. I can say that there have been times where I've been caught up with all the gossip, drama, and excitement that I've been blinded and can't see what's happening before my very eyes. Life sure is filled with tricks and if I'm lucky I'll finally catch one!
